David "the Bearded Stranger" Long - 2010 Meat Destroyer Champion

The 2010 Meat Destroyer featured its widest variety of meats yet. Though the usual suspects – hot dogs and hamburgers – continued to dominate the plates, more meats were made available than ever before. While fans of impaled meat had their choice of chicken or lamb kebabs, the more sandwich-savvy contestants piled on the pulled pork. And when word spread that a grilled meatloaf spectacular dubbed ‘White Trash Surf & Turf’ was about to debut … they way they lined up you’d think they hadn’t been gorging on meat all day. Not to mention the return of the Bacon Explosion, a dish so divinely inspired it makes one wonder why God didn’t plant a bacon tree.

Multiple sandwiches also featured the addition of peameal bacon, an innovation introduced by our Canadian friends. Despite the fact that their flag has a giant vegetable smack dab in the middle of it, our neighbors to the north cheered every competitor and sampled every innovative dish, proving that love of tasty meat has no borders.

For the first time a ‘speed round’ was implemented, and twelve competitors suppressed their gag reflex and tried to get down as many hot dogs (with buns) as possible. Jay “The Galloping Gulper” Ganz became the first winner of the Wiener War, scarfing however-many hot dogs over ten minutes of competition so competitive it drove one sore-jawed contestant to declare, “I’m sticking with the pulled pork from here on out.” Nice job, Ganz; I guess practice makes perfect.

And finally, congratulations to new champion Dave “All Day” Long, who avoided an upchuck and turned in an upset. As the sun set upon another successful Meat Destroyer, Dave could be seen weighing yet another handful of hot dogs while his main rival, the runaway leader for most of the day, searched for salvation in a fresh puddle of meat he hadn’t quite finished digesting. That man’s disqualification became Dave’s qualification, and the new champion greeted news of the impending win by asking if there was any meatloaf left. Congratulations to Dave on his victory, and to all the competitors who made the 2010 Meat Destroyer a success!
